要旨

To extend the applicability of mass spectrometers to on-site analysis in scenarios such as organic synthesis monitoring, public safety inspections, and production process control, we have developed a compact all-in-one digital ion trap-based mass spectrometry system called OMS. The system incorporates a novel direct ion source (WD-ESI/APCI), which facilitates the ionization of liquid and solid samples without the need for prior sample preparation. The OMS features an integrated compact vacuum system that ensures adequate sample throughput without requiring an external pump, thus enhancing its portability and ease of use. The system also includes comprehensive software with a user-friendly touchscreen interface and a compound identification algorithm to simplify analysis. The entire OMS weighs 25 kg and is comparable in size to a typical microwave oven. One of the primary application areas for the OMS system is monitoring organic synthesis reactions in pharmaceutical industries and university teaching labs. Customized software further establishes the system as a teaching solution for chemistry students, as demonstrated in this article. The OMS system can potentially become an invaluable tool for organic chemists and beginner students alike. Other applications are also being explored.
