要旨

In recent years, the Chinese government has released national standards for detecting volatile organic compounds (VOCs) using portable chromatograph/mass spectrometers (GCMS) in response to increasingly more stringent demands for environmental protection. In view of these trends, we have developed a portable GCMS system based on low thermal mass (LTM) GC and digital ion trap technology that has high portability and a less
compromised performance. After several generations of development, its dimensions are 31 cm × 22 cm × 44 cm (L × W × H) and it weighs 18.8 kg with the battery and gas cylinder included, which enables it to operate continuously for more than two hours. The portable GCMS has three switchable modes: direct analysis mode, low concentration mode, and high concentration mode. The limit of detection (LOD) is 30 ppb without
concentration and 39 ppt with Tenax® concentration. Good separation and identification of TO-15 VOCs (65 components) was obtained along with good retention times (R.T.) repeatability. New prototypes are now being developed with enhanced robustness, reduced weight and power consumption, and with extended lifetimes of consumable parts. Applications in other areas, such as breath analysis, will be extended as well.
