Abstract

Therapeutic drug monitoring has become a pivotal tool for clinicians to individualize therapy, to check observance and maximize response while lowering side effects. Highly accurate and high-throughput analytical technologies are necessary. Liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry has become a major tool to achieve these goals because of its unique capabilities. To fully take its place in clinical laboratories, LC-MS/MS need to adapt to clinical laboratory needs. For this, automation solutions now exist. A general presentation of LC-MS/MS and its advantages over other analytical technologies are presented as well as practical examples of automation solution.
