Abstract

The ion optical design of a high resolution Multi-turn TOF Mass Analyzer (MT-TOF MA) is presented. Due to the rotational symmetry of the main electrodes higher density of ion trajectories in the drift direction is achievable compared to the multi-turn instruments linearly extended in the drift direction. Ion optical properties of the analyzer are briefly described. Geometry of the analyzer was optimized to provide the 1st order isochronicity and to minimize TOF aberrations of the 2nd and 3rd order. As a result of such optimization the analyzer demonstrated high mass resolving power. Numerical simulations showed that m/dm can be as high as 207000(fwhm). Several operational modes with different m/dm’s were considered. Due to the open reference trajectory the analyzer provides infinite mass range of analyzed ions.
