Nov. 16, 2012: Results presented at 23rd Conference of the Society for Chromatographic Sciences

The 23rd Conference of the Society for Chromatographic Sciences was held at the Nagaragawa Convention Center in Gifu Prefecture from November 14 to 16, 2012 to discuss research and development and applications related to chromatography. The Koichi Tanaka Laboratory of Advanced Science and Technology made a presentation at the Conference.
In general, various buffers (tris, diethanolamine, imidazole, ammonium formate, and piperazine) are used to enhance the separation performance of liquid chromatographs. However, in mass spectrometry, these buffers suffer from the downside of significantly impairing the ionization efficiency.
The presentation described how simply adding methylene diphosphonate MDPNA to the matrix used as an ionization adjuvant can significantly enhance measurement sensitivity without reducing separation performance at the normal buffer spiking level, with no desalting.
