 An open lecture for students and the general public will be convened as one of the events at the International Mass Spectrometry Conference (IMSC) to be held at the Kyoto International Conference Center in September. Anyone with even a passing interest in science and technology is encouraged to attend.

2. Explaining how the study of basic subjects plays a role in cutting edge research
3. Introducing how expertise from different fields was related to the lecturer’s awards and inventions
4. Introducing how features of Japanese science and technology lay the groundwork for creativity
